Teachers' Pay claim 2024-25

Teachers' Pay claim 2024-25

Today (22 Jan) saw the submission of this year's pay claim by the Teachers' Side of the SNCT.

The claim for an undifferentiated 6.5% pay award for all staff covered by SNCT terms and conditions was submitted to CoSLA and the Scottish Government today.  The award period it relates to runs from 1 August 2024-31 July 2025.  The logic underpinning this claim is that it is slightly higher than the current rate of inflation and, as such, an award at this level would maintain the value of teachers' salaries and regain a little of the buying power that has been lost through sub-inflationary pay awards in previous years.

The hope is that early submission of the claim will enable fruitful negotiations and settlement in time for implementation in August pay packets (rather than long running negotiations and industrial action seen in 2022 and 2023 and late settlement for those years).

CoSLA has responded in the media to say that the affordability of any claim will depend on their financial settlement for 2024/5 which will be fully understood at the end of February.
