Time to Think Training

Our 'Time to Think …Time to Talk' series continues with new sessions and new speakers.  We know that the richest learning comes from having time and space to think through new ideas and discuss your plans with peers and experts.  Our training events seek to offer you just that - a chance to get a new perspective and access to practice that works.

Our TTT (Time to Think) courses for 2012 are now available for booking – at an even lower member-rate than we have charged in recent years!

The courses on offer this year build on existing courses which were extremely well received and respond issues that are coming to the fore through policy changes or that are becoming apparent to us through the types of cases coming to our Area Officers for support and advice.  We hope that the topics on offer ‘hit the mark’ for you but are always keen to hear from members who would be interested in AHDS training sessions or conferences on different themes.

Our programme for 2012:

“Dealing with competence issues and probationers” / “Resolving conflict and improving relationships in your school”

In many ways this session is two half days on separate but very much related topics.  The morning session will look at… and will be delivered by Lily Proudfoot.  Lily is the AHDS Area Officer for Angus, Dundee and Fife.  She is an experienced HT and former elected member of the GTCS who served as a Panel Convener.  The afternoon session will consider ‘conflict’, how it arises, the benefits of early and effectively.  The session will be delivered by Eilish Garland.  Eilish is the Director of Quinn Garland Ltd Coaching and Mediation Services since 2004, which offers executive coaching, mediation, counselling, and conflict resolution with individuals and a range of organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

Taking place at the following locations on:

Stirling – 7 September

Edinburgh – 12 September

Inverness – 19 September

“Coaching and Mentoring”

It would be fair to say that a few years ago Coaching and Mentoring was flavour of the minute.  The interest and funding from the Scottish Government seemed to fade after that but the use of these techniques to develop your team continues to be important – ever more so with the emerging plans for GTCS Professional Update which will be centred around high quality PRD conversations.  Get ahead of the game with this new course.

“Coaching and Mentoring” will take place at the following locations on:

Glasgow – 24 May

Aberdeen – 29 May

Stirling – 7 September

“Assessment, Moderation and Profiling”

This day will build on emerging practice around assessment in CfE.  It will build from the premise that assessment is not rocket science.  It is core to the practice of learning and teaching and is something that all teachers have always done.  The session will be delivered by AHDS President, Pam Nesbitt (closely involved in national groups looking at assessment and the NAR), AHDS Past President, Irene Matier (AHDS representative on the CfE Management Board) and Kathryn Dalyrmple (AHDS Deputes Rep on National Executive currently seconded to a Development Officer role in Perth and Kinross).

‘Assessment, Moderation and Profiling’ will take place at the following locations on:

Glasgow – 24 May

Aberdeen – 29 May

Edinburgh – 12 September

Inverness – 19 September
