CfE – Skills and Profiling
13 November - Glasgow - due to high demand we have increased capacity for this session - Full
20 November - Edinburgh
This day will be a day of two halves.
One half, to be delivered by Irene Matier (member of the CfE Management Board, HT at Jordanhill Primary in Glasgow and former President of AHDS), will take a clear and focussed look at the process of profiling and developments around the profile itself. This will include an update on the latest expectations and opportunities to share approaches with colleagues. There will be a strong focus on manageability and reducing paperwork.
The other half, to be delivered by Franca Reid (Headteacher at Longforgan PS in Perth & Kinross and member of AHDS National Council), will look at ‘Implementing Skills – simply!’ This workshop will outline resources and suggestions on how to strip away the complexity of implementing the use of Higher Order Thinking Skills and Social Skills into a school. Franca will share how her school went about successfully implementing skills and the positive impact it has had. The workshop will give a significant amount of time for discussion to support colleagues to begin to consider how they could use some of what has worked for Longforgan in their own schools.
Wednesday 2 October, Stirling
If you are part of a management team looking after more than one school, are soon to move into such a role or are considering it then this event is for you. In parallel with falling numbers of applicants for headship across Scotland and reductions in management time for teaching headteachers, which many feel make the job impossible, local authorities are increasingly turning to the option of a joint headship – one Headteacher looking after two or more schools. This makes for a very different role for the Headteacher and for any deputes or PTs forming part of the management team for these clusters of schools. This event aims to give those in joint-headships (or cluster headships as they are known in some areas) an opportunity to share, compare and reflect with peers on the key issues faced in the role. A draft outline programme for the day is available online.
